Books I've Read Recently

Write Mind: 299 Things Writers Should Never Say to Themselves (And What They Should Say Instead) by Eric Maisel. Writing, especially novel writing, is a marathon experience. Self-doubt and intimidation are obstacles for most writers. This book talks about examining one's thoughts and feelings about writing in order to have a more positive relationship with one's writing. cover

The Forest for the Trees: Advice to Writers, by Betsy Lerner. A wonderful book about writers and editors and the relationship between them, told by someone who has been a writer, an editor, and an agent.

I don't think I've ever dog-eared so many pages in a book before. There are so many wonderful anecdotes to re-read, so many wonderful quotes about writing. She expresses both the thrill and the heartache of being an editor. If you've been feeling alone as a writer, this book will be more comforting and educational than you could imagine.
